Religion
The religions in Japan are Shinto, Buddhist, Christianity and Confusianism. Shinto is the original religion of Japan. Shintoists believe that every living thing has divine force, or power, called kami. When you die, your kami lives on in the afterlife. Also since kami is mainly in nature, shintoists believe that it is important to mimic nature. Nature is good at keeping itself clean. One way to mimic this is baths.
Buddhism plays an important role in the life of many a Japanese. Often weddings are held Shinto style, while funerals are mostly Buddhist style. Families also often have small-scale Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in their homes, and would pray to both Shinto and Buddhist gods at the start of the year. During Bon, (or Obon) which is a Buddhist festival, most Japanese would honour their deceased relatives.
In a Confucian lifestyle, Confucians honour Ethics, Devotion, Humanity, Contemplation and Commpassion. Christians honour one God And strive to learn as much about Him and His Son as possible.
